Commons at Agora

Citizen surveys have indicated that Corinth residents would like additional local dining and shopping options and a distinct downtown area to gather. To make Corinth more attractive to these types of businesses, the City plans to invest in designing and developing a centralized gathering space. The space, known as the Commons at Agora, will provide ample opportunities for people to recreate, relax, and gather. However, the specific elements of the Commons will be defined by Corinth residents.

Naming of Agora

Agora can best be defined as “marketplace”, “gathering place” or “assembly”. The term is used to describe both the congregation of people and the physical setting of the public space where people gathered to conduct the ordinary activities of daily living. In this context, Agora was conceived to brand Corinth’s emerging downtown district because its: (i) Greek origins are consistent with that of Corinth; (ii) an apropos translation of the vision for building an energetic downtown that will become the City’s economic and cultural focus; and (iii) a distinct name that will distinguish and differentiate Corinth’s downtown from those in other communities that will prove challenging to replicate. Moving forward, Agora will be leveraged to inspire developers, attract businesses and create a multi-generational center of activity that will enhance Corinth's tax base and quality of life.
